
Wojcik Wins Four Titles, Michigan Ties Program Floor Record in Win Over ASU

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 1-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team swept the event titles and tied a program record on floor exercise to earn a 197.950-196.275 victory over Arizona State on Saturday (Jan. 15) at Crisler Center.
Prior to the meet against the Sun Devils (0-1), the Wolverines (2-0) raised their 2021 national championship banner in front of more than 3,000 fans.
U-M tied a program record 49.700 on floor to conclude the meet, while scoring a 49.225 or higher on all four events. Senior Natalie Wojcik notched four event titles with her second straight uneven bars, balance beam and all-around titles and sharing a piece of the vault title with sophomore Naomi Morrison. Wojcik put together a 39.675 in the all-around, while earning 9.975s on vault and beam and scoring a 9.950 on bars.
Morrison tied a career-best 9.975 on the vault and earned a career-high 9.950 to share the floor titles with Abby Brenner and Gabby Wilson, who also posted career-highs on the event.
Morrison and Wojcik came out with beautiful vaults as the two shared the event title with matching 9.975s. The score tied a career best for Morrison, while Wilson placed third with a career-high 9.950 and Heiskell earned a 9.925 to help Michigan to a 49.625 in the opening rotation.
Wojcik earned her second event title of the day and her second straight uneven bars title in as many meets, anchoring with a 9.950 and a stuck landing. Abby Heiskell led off the second rotation with her second stuck landing on uneven bars this season, scoring a 9.875 and both Brenner and Sierra Brooks earned a matching score to tie for second overall.
Brooks and Morrison earned matching 9.825s on the beam before Heiskell tied a career-high 9.925 and Wojcik anchored with a beautiful 9.975 to win her third title of the day. The Wolverines led Arizona State 148.250-147.350 heading to the floor.
U-M was stunning on the floor, tying a program record with five scores of 9.925 or better. Heiskell led off with a 9.925 and Brenner followed it up with a career-high 9.950. Morrison earned her third career-best score of the day and second title with a 9.950, and Wilson anchored with a 9.950 to earn a piece of the title for the second time in as many competitions.
The Wolverines will hit the road for the first time on Monday, Jan. 24 when they head to Minnesota for their first Big Ten Conference meet of the 2022 campaign. The meet is slated to start at 7 p.m. CST and will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network, with Dean Linke and Michigan alumnae Olivia Karas on the call.
