The No. 23-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team competes for the Big Ten Tournament title and the league's automatic bid the NCAA Tournament this weekend in Lincoln, Neb. As the No. 2 seed in the East, as co-champion of the Division, the Wolverines earned a first round bye and will take on Minnesota on Friday (April 30) in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. CDT. The semifinals and final are set for Saturday and Sunday (May 1-2). The tournament final will be streamed live on Big Ten Network+.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan enters the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 2 seed in the East after sharing the Eastern Division title with Ohio State with a 9-1 mark. Overall, the Wolverines are 14-3, with all three losses to ranked opponents.
• The Wolverines are ranked No. 23 in the Oracle/ITA coaches poll, No. 44 in the Oracle/ITA computer ranking, and No. 10 in the Tennis Channel/USTA College Tennis Top 25 poll and the Cracked Racquets poll.
• Michigan has won 36 Big Ten titles but has not won the Big Ten Tournament since it started in 1999.
• Andrew Fenty and Ondrej Styler were named first team All-Big Ten, Mattias Siimar and Patrick Maloney captured second-team honors, marking the first time since 1980 that four Wolverines were named all-conference. Coach Adam Steinberg won his first Big Ten Coach of the Year title.
• Andrew Fenty and Mattias Siimar are ranked No. 45 in doubles with a 13-3 record this season. As a pair, the duo has an impressive career record of 38-7. Fenty posted a 12-3 singles record during Big Ten play this season, going 10-3 at No. 1 and 2-0 at No. 2. Styler is 8-2 against Big Ten opponents this season and is 12-6 overall. He won his only match at No. 1 singles and is 7-3 at No. 2.
• Patrick Maloney and Siimar are options for Michigan at the No. 3 spot. Maloney is 7-2 at the spot, while Siimar is 4-2 and 13-2 in the Big Ten, while Maloney is 9-3 in conference matches.
• Nick Beaty owns the best win percentage on the team (.810) with an 18-4 record. He has a 12-2 mark in the league, playing primarily at Nos. 4 and 5.
• Jacob Bickersteth and Nino Ehrenschneider are on four-match win streaks in Nos. 5 and 6 singles and will challenge for spots at those positions.
