Wolverine Notes
• Michigan finished the Big Ten portion of the season with a 9-4 record, good for fourth place in the Big Ten. It marks the third time in the last five seasons that U-M has finished in the top four of the conference and earned a double-bye into the quarterfinals. U-M will face either No. 5 seed Northwestern, No. 12 seed Illinois or No. 13 seed Wisconsin in the quarterfinals. U-M went 5-0 against the group this season, knocking off Northwestern twice (83-62 in Evanston, 63-58 in Ann Arbor), Wisconsin twice (92-49 in Ann Arbor, 69-40 in Madison) and Illinois once (70-50 in Ann Arbor).
• Michigan has advanced to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament in each of the last two seasons. U-M won two games at the tourney last season before falling to Ohio State in the semifinal round. Michigan has never made a championship game appearance, advancing to the semifinals five times in program history. Naz Hillmon grabbed a spot on last year's all-tournament team, becoming just the second Wolverine in program history to earn the nod.
• Michigan has a quartet of Indiana natives on the team in Leigha Brown (Auburn), Amy Dilk (Carmel), Emily Kiser (Noblesville) and Maddie Nolan (Zionsville). The Big Ten Tournament marks Michigan's fourth trip to the Hoosier State this season. All four of the Wolverines were members of the Indiana All-Star Team, with Dilk earning Miss Basketball honors in 2018.
• Junior Naz Hillmon became the first player in program history to be named Big Ten Player of the Year, earning the honor from both the coaches and the media. Junior Leigha Brown was a second-team honoree by both the coaches and media, with graduate student Akienreh Johnson grabbing a spot on the All-Defensive Team from the coaches.
• Michigan had four double-figure scorers in its 75-66 win over Ohio State (Feb. 21), the first time U-M had four in double figures since a 92-49 win over Wisconsin (Dec. 31). U-M is 7-0 when at least four players reach double figures, with five players doing it in the season-opening win over Central Michigan (Nov. 25). The Wolverines are 4-1 when three players score at least 10 points, while going 3-3 when just two players top the 10-point mark.
• If the seeds hold, No. 4 seed Michigan will face off against No. 5 seed Northwestern in quarterfinal action. It would mark the sixth time the two teams have squared off over the last two seasons, with U-M holding a 3-2 advantage over the Wildcats. In addition, it would be the second time in the last three seasons that U-M has faced off against an opponent in successive games. Michigan faced Wisconsin in the 2018-19 season finale and then again in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. In that meeting, Wisconsin knocked off No. 5-seed Ohio State to advance to the quarterfinals.
