BETTENDORF, Iowa -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team played to a scoreless double-overtime draw at Iowa on Thursday afternoon (March 4) at TBK Bank Sports Complex. The Wolverines outshot the Hawkeyes, 21-9, putting nine shots on net.
Junior Raleigh Loughman had a team-best five shots, four of which tested Iowa keeper Monica Wilhelm, while Nicki Hernandez put all three of her shots on net.
Senior goalkeeper Hillary Beall made three saves against the Hawkeyes, all of which were shots from Meike Ingles.
Loughman gave Michigan three opportunities in the first half, putting three shots on frame, while U-M took 10 total shots with five reaching net.
Beall made two saves and the defense limited the Hawkeyes to just four total shots in the first 45 minutes of action.
Senior Sarah Stratigakis put a shot into the top corner in the 69th minute seconds before Loughman had a shot sail wide less than 30 seconds later but neither were able to find the back of the net.
Hernandez looked to give Michigan the first goal of the game in the 84th minute with a shot into the bottom-left corner, but Wilhelm scooped it up to keep the match scoreless. Loughman put one final shot on frame in regulation, but it was once again saved by Wilhelm as the teams went into overtime.
U-M had two shots in the first overtime period that were both wide and managed one shot on net in the second overtime period as the two teams played to a scoreless draw.
The Wolverines continue their road trip Sunday (March 7) when they take on Nebraska at noon CST in Lincoln. The match will be streamed live on Big Ten Network Plus.
