
Five Wolverines Named to Big Ten All-Conference Teams

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Five University of Michigan women's gymnasts were named to the Big Ten Conference teams as announced by the conference office Thursday (March 17) afternoon.
For the ninth straight season, the Wolverines have had at least five all-conference selections and at least four first team selections as Sierra Brooks, Abby Heiskell, Gabby Wilson and Natalie Wojcik all earned first team honors and freshman Naomi Morrison was a second team honoree.
U-M leads the conference with four first team honors, while both Iowa and Minnesota had three first team honorees.
Brooks earns first team honors for the second time in her career after winning eight individual titles, including two all-around crowns in the regular season. The sophomore all-arounder notched a career-best 9.975 on the vault and took home four titles, while earning one uneven bars victory and one beam victory with a career-high 9.950. Brooks took home the all-around title in back-to-back weeks tying a career-best 39.650 at the Ohio State Quad (March 7). Heading into the Big Ten Championships, she ranks in the top 15 nationally on the vault (fourth) and in the all-around (13th).
Heiskell has won two vault titles this season and was most recently named the Big Ten Specialist of the Week after tying for the vault title at Maryland with a career-high 9.975. The junior has posted six routines with a score of 9.900 or better, including earning a 9.950 on the vault for a perfect score before upgrading it at the next meet. Heiskell also earned a career-best 9.925 on the uneven bars and tied a career-high 9.925 on the beam at the Ohio State Quad (March 7). She ranks 14th nationally on vault heading into the Big Ten Championships.
Wilson earns first team honors for the second time in her career after winning eight event titles this season. The sophomore all-arounder led the Wolverines with five floor exercise titles including a career-best 9.950 to kick off the season against Ohio State (Jan. 16). Wilson also earned one vault, one beam and one all-around title and ranks 15th nationally on the floor.
Wojcik notched her third straight first team honor after being named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week twice this season to bring her career total to 11. The junior all-arounder took home 11 event titles this season including four straight weeks as the beam and all-around champion. Wojcik earned her first perfect 10 on the balance beam against Nebraska (Feb. 15). The Douglasville, Pa., native notched four beam titles, four uneven bars titles and four all-around titles in the regular season. Wojcik ranks in the top-15 nationally in three events including: beam (fourth), the uneven bars (fifth) and the all-around (sixth), and had 17 routines that scored a 9.900 or better.
Morrison finished her first regular season donning the maize and blue with back-to-back vault victories, earning a career-best 9.975 at Maryland (March 12). The freshman competed in the lineup on the vault in every meet this season, also while competing in the lineup on the uneven bars and floor three times.
Finally, Abby Brenner was Michigan's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. Brenner competed in four meets for the Wolverines, earning three scores of 9.900-or-better, two of which came on the uneven bars.Â
The Wolverines will travel to Minneapolis, Minn., looking to capture their 26th Big Ten Championships title on Saturday (March 20) beginning at 5:30 p.m. The evening session will be broadcast live on BIg Ten Network.
