
Michigan Sweeps Event Titles in Exhibition Win Over CMU, WMU

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The reigning NCAA champion University of Michigan women's gymnastics team earned a decisive victory over Central Michigan and Western Michigan on Thursday (Dec. 9) in its exhibition meet at Crisler Center. The U-M scored a 197.250, CMU finished second with a 194.350 and WMU placed third with a 193.075.
The Wolverines scored a 49.000 or higher on all four events, while sweeping the event titles. Senior Natalie Wojcik earned the uneven bars and balance beam titles with a 9.950 and 9.975, respectively. Senior Abby Heiskell started the evening winning the vault title with a 9.925, while Gabby Wilson and Naomi Morrison tied for the floor exercise title.
Wilson also captured the all-around title with a 39.575 with Morrison placing second (39.375). Michigan took the top three spots in all four events as Abby Brenner and Sierra Brooks also earned podium finishes.
The Wolverines started strong on the vault with a 49.350 behind a 9.925 from Heiskell, while Wilson scored a 9.900 in the anchor spot to place second overall. Wojcik and Brooks also had solid showings in the first rotation with a 9.875 and 9.850 to finish third and fourth, respectively.
Michigan was unstoppable on the bars in the second rotation as all six gymnasts stuck their landings and four earned scores of 9.900 or higher to notch a team score of 49.575 and remain in the overall lead. Wojcik led U-M with a 9.950 to win the event title, while Brenner and Wilson scored matching 9.925s to tie for second. Heiskell led things off with a 9.900 to finish fourth and Morrison added a 9.875, finishing fifth to round out the Wolverine scorers through two rotations.
Wojcik put together a nearly perfect performance on the beam, scoring a 9.975 to anchor the third rotation and lead the team to a 49.225 team score. She picked up her second title of the meet, while Wilson and Brooks earned matching 9.850s to finish second. U-M led the field with a 148.150 after three rotations, while CMU (145.775) and WMU (144.625) headed to their final rotations.
The Wolverines closed out the meet with Morrison and Wilson earning matching 9.900s to capture the floor title, while Brenner scored a 9.850 to help Michigan to a 49.100 to earn their exhibition victory.
U-M will kick off the 2022 campaign Thursday, Jan. 6, when it hosts Georgia for at Crisler Center. The meet is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start and will be streamed live on B1G+.
