Wolverines Make Quick Work of Visiting Brown

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team sailed to a 4-0 win over Brown on Sunday (March 1) in the first of two matches at the Varsity Tennis Center today.
The Wolverines claimed the doubles point for 13th time this season and won all six first sets before straight-set wins at Nos. 1, 5 and 6 gave the U-M the clean sweep as it improved to 13-3 on the season.
For the first time this season, Connor Johnston and Nick Beaty teamed up at No. 2 doubles and scored the final four points to take a 6-2 match. The No. 2-ranked team of Andrew Fenty and Mattias Siimar followed with a 6-4 win to improve their record to 12-2 this spring and 24-4 this year. Tied at 4-4, Fenty and Siimar won consecutive points for the victory.
Patrick Maloney picked up his second straight singles win of the weekend, winning both with matching 6-2 scores at No. 5 versus Niraj Komatineni to improve to 9-7 on the year.
On the next court, No. 17-ranked Fenty captured a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jacob Walker at No. 1 singles. Tied at 3-3 in the first set, Fenty pushed ahead on a 3-1 run. In set two he was up 4-0 and allowed just two points to push Michigan to a 3-0 lead.
Minute later, across the VTC, Harrison Brown earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 to take the team win. He never trailed in the match to get back on track after going winless in his last seven matches.
No. 112 Siimar won a 6-2 first set at No. 2 and was tied, 4-4, in the second set before the match was abandoned. No. 87 Johnston had a 6-4 win at No. 3 and was down, 3-2, in the second before it, too, was left unfinished. Beaty won 7-5 in the first set and was ahead, 4-1, in the second set at No. 4.
Michigan will be back in action Sunday afternoon, hosting Boston University at 4 p.m. at the VTC in the first-ever meeting between the programs.
