
Wolverines Set to Host New Hampshire in Spring Break Meet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team will kick off Spring Break with a home meet against New Hampshire on Friday (Feb. 28) at 6:30 p.m. inside Crisler Center. The meet also will be streamed live on BTN Plus.
Michigan vs. New Hampshire
• No. 7 Michigan will begin its Spring Break with a home meet against No. 33 New Hampshire on Friday (Feb. 28) at 6:30 p.m.
• The Wolverines enter the meet with an 11-0 record on the season and captured the Big Ten regular-season title with an undefeated 9-0 mark in the conference following their win at the Elevate the Stage meet on Saturday evening (Feb. 22).
• The Wolverines will welcome back alum Lindsey Bruck Ayotte (2004-08), who is now the head coach of New Hampshire.
• U-M leads, 12-1, in the all-time series with New Hampshire. The last time the schools met was in 2016 at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional. Head coach Bev Plocki is 12-0 against the Wildcats. The only Michigan loss to UNH came in 1987.
Big Ten Regular-Season Champions
• Michigan swept through the conference season undefeated at 9-0 to win the Big Ten regular-season title.
• U-M earned dual-meet wins over Illinois, Rutgers, Ohio State and Iowa.
• The Wolverines then defeated Minnesota, Penn State, Michigan State and Maryland at Elevate the Stage to complete the perfect season for a second straight year. U-M has lost only twice in the conference over the last four years.
• The title is the sixth Big Ten regular-season title and fourth straight for the Wolverines. Michigan shared titles in 2013 and 2017, and won outright in 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2020. The Big Ten has recognized the regular season champion for just eight seasons.
Last Time Out
• Michigan set a program record with a 197.950 at the Elevate the Stage meet in Toledo, Ohio, capturing the Big Ten regular-season title in the process.
• The Wolverines posted season highs on three of the four events to lead to the program-record score. The 49.600 on vault tied for the fifth best in program history. U-M also set season highs on uneven bars (49.400) and floor exercise (49.525).
• The team scored a 9.900 on 12 routines and did not have a routine score below a 9.800.
• Sophomore Natalie Wojcik won three events and the all-around with a career-high 39.775. Her all-around score is the seventh best in program history. She had a career-high 9.975 to tie for the win on balance beam and matched a career-high on bars with a 9.950 to win that event. Her other title came on vault, tying for first with a 9.950. She added a 9.900 on floor to give her at least a 9.900 on all four events.
• Freshman Sierra Brooks won floor exercise with a career-high 9.950. She matched her best all-around score with a 39.500.
• Sophomore Abby Brenner tied Wojcik for the vault win with a 9.950. She has won vault in three of the last four meets, averaging a 9.919 over the last month. She also scored a 9.900 on floor in Saturday's meet.
• Sophomore Abby Heiskell had her best career meet, recording career highs on vault and beam with a 9.925 on both events.
• Freshman Nicoletta Koulos also shined in the meet, leading the team off with a 9.850 to match her season high on floor and kick-start the meet on a high note. She then scored her first career 9.900 on vault in the next rotation.
• Senior Maggie O'Hara replaced Maddie Mariani in the bars lineup with Mariani out for the meet. O'Hara did a great job filling in with a career-high 9.875.
• Also scoring a 9.900 or better were senior Lexi Funk on beam (9.900) and freshman Gabby Wilson on floor (9.925).
Best Start Since 2008
• U-M is off to its best start since 2008 with an 11-0 record. In 2008, the Wolverines started 15-0 before a loss to Utah in the regular-season finale.
• Michigan has started 10-0 or better in four different seasons, including 11-0 in 2020, 15-0 in 2008, 10-0 in 1994, and 10-0 and 1992.
39.600 Club
• Wojcik has scored higher than 39.600 in three meets this season to give her 10 career all-around scores of 39.600 or better.
• Her 10 scores rank tied for second all-time at Michigan with Sarah Cain. Only Elise Ray (13) has more.
In the Rankings
• In the first week of the NQS rankings, Michigan moved up two spots to No. 7 in the Road to National rankings, marking its sixth straight week in the top 10.
• U-M remains one of the top teams nationally on vault at No. 3 overall.
• Two Wolverines are ranked in the all-around with Brooks at No. 8 and Wojcik at No. 21.
• Brooks is tied for 18th on vault, tied for 33rd on bars, tied for 39th on beam and tied for 39th on floor.
• Wojcik is tied for 35th on vault, tied for 27th on bars and tied for 34th on floor.
• Wilson is ranked on two events, coming in this week tied for 22nd on vault and tied for 39th on floor. Brenner is tied with Wilson at No. 22 on vault.
• U-M was ranked No. 6 in the WCGA preseason poll and was picked to win the Big Ten Conference.
Home Slate
• The Wolverines will have one more home meet following Friday's meet against New Hampshire. The final home meet on the schedule will take place Friday, Mar. 13 at 6:30 p.m. when Michigan hosts Ball State. U-M also will honor its five seniors following the meet.
