Michigan Drops Dual Match at Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. -- The No. 4-ranked Michigan men's tennis team hit a snag on Friday (Feb. 21), falling, 4-0, to Oklahoma State at the Greenwood Tennis Center. It was just the third loss for the Wolverines this spring.
The Cowboys took the doubles point as the No. 48-ranked team of Emile Hudd and Matej Vocel handed No. 2 Andrew Fenty and Mattias Siimar just their second loss of the season. Tied at 2-2, OSU scored the next four points for the 6-2 win. At No. 3, Patrick Maloney and Harrison Brown lost, 6-4, while and Connor Johnston had slight 5-4 lead before the match was abandoned. This was just the third match this season that Michigan did not win the doubles point.
Oklahoma State carried the momentum into singles play, taking wins at Nos. 3, 4 and 5.
No. 112-ranked Siimar lost to Hudd, 6-3, 6-4 before No. 87 Johnston dropped 6-3, 6-4 sets to Mathieu Scaglia.
Maloney and No. 32-ranked Styler both pushed their first sets into tiebreakers. Styler won the tiebreaker, 7-5 while Maloney lost his, 7-5. Both matches were abandoned in the second set.
Also left unfinished was No. 1 singles with No. 17 Fenty and No. 44 Vocel. Fenty battled back from an 0-4 to win the next four points. The players traded points before Vocel earned match point and a 7-5 first-set win.
The Wolverines will look to snap their two-game skid when they continue their weekend road trip on Sunday (Feb. 23) with a battle at Notre Dame at 3 p.m.
