AMES, Iowa -- Distance runners Ben Hill and Cole Johnson posted top-10 mile finishes to close out the Wolverine endurance squad's last day at the Iowa State Classic.
Hill ran his fastest mile of the year so far -- 4:03.15 -- to finish eighth overall in the talented field, followed right behind by teammate Johnson's career-best 4:03.98 for ninth. Nick Foster ran a college career-best 4:04.99 for 15th overall with Anthony Berry just behind in 18th at 4:06.34.
Hill, Johnson and Foster all finished strong in their respective races. Hill moved up from 10th to fifth over the final 800 meters in the fastest section of the event, while Johnson surged on the final lap of the second-fastest section to pass a couple opponents. After leading the third-fastest section early, Foster faded in the middle of the race but was able to rally and just missed the race victory by .03 seconds.
Over 800 meters, Derrick Simmons was 19th in a career-best 1:52.13.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Sprinter Ian Davis etched his name in the Michigan record books for the second day in a row to headline the Wolverines' final day of action at the Arkansas Tyson Invitational.
With a career-best 21.67 over 200 meters for 10th place on Saturday (Feb. 15), Davis now ranks tied for ninth all-time in Michigan indoor history with former teammate Desmond Nicholas and Morgan Trent.
This marks the third different event in which Davis has posted all-time top-10 marks in the past two weekends, following up on his 46.78 over 400 meters on Friday (Feb. 14) that moved him to No. 10 in that event. He also debuted in the 600 meters last weekend with a 1:19.01 for the No. 7 spot on that list.
In the field, Max Wagner had his best-ever indoor-track season performance in the high jump, clearing 2.10m (6 feet, 10.75 inches) to earn the victory in the non-invitational section of the event. Wagner did not miss once through the four heights that got him to 2.10m, where he was the only one of three men still alive who was able to make that bar.
He then took three unsuccessful attempts at a 2.14m (7-0.25) height that would have made him just the 14th man in school history to get seven feet indoors.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- With a shot put victory by All-American Andrew Liskowitz on Saturday, Michigan swept the throwing events at the Vanderbilt Music City Challenge.
Liskowitz surpassed 20 meters for the second meet in 2020 as he tossed 20.19m (66 feet, 3 inches) in the fourth round to get the win over Alabama's Isaac Odugbesan and defending Big Ten Outdoor champion Jalil Brewer of Purdue.
The throw is the second-best of his indoor career, and the second best in Michigan indoor history.
His victory follows up on a weight throw win by Manning Plater on Friday.
