
Four Wolverines Named to IWLCA West/Midwest All-Region Second Team

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- For the first time in University of Michigan women's lacrosse history, four Wolverines were named to the IWLCA West/Midwest All-Region second team on Tuesday (May 21).
Senior Mira Shane, junior Molly Garrett and sophomores Maggie Kane and Caitlin Muir were all named to the second team after leading U-M to a 16-4 overall record and its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
In her final season at Michigan, Shane earned a program-best 13 wins in the cage and made a program-high 150 saves, while boasting a Michigan season-best .505 save percentage. The Princeton, New Jersey, native produced seven games with 10 saves or more and took the single-game program record with 18 saves against No. 25 Dartmouth (Feb. 17). Shane ended her career as U-M's all-time leader in wins (24), saves (360) and save percentage (.451) and was the first Wolverine to be named a Tewaaraton Award nominee.
Co-captain Garrett, was one-of-four players to start all 20 games and was one-of-six players to surpass 30 points (32) in the 2019 season. The junior midfielder scored 29 goals, 11 of which came in the final three games of the year and netted three game-winners, including the overtime goal against No 25 Dartmouth (Feb. 17). Garrett scored a career-best six goals against Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament, earning her Big Ten All-Tournament team honors. On top of her offensive production, Garrett led the team with 65 draw-control victories which ranks second all-time in Michigan single season history. The Winter Springs, Florida, native also added 26 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers. Finally, Garrett was the first played in Michigan history to be added the Tewaaraton Award Watch List as she was in the first round of midseason additions.
Kane joined Garrett as one of four players to play in and start all 20 games in the 2019 season as she had 38 points. The sophomore ranks fifth all-time in Michigan single-season history with 34 goals and scored in all but two games to hold the Michigan record with 22 straight games with a goal, dating back to the 2018 season. The 5-foot-4 midfielder tallied two games with six points on two occasions, scoring five goals and adding one assist against Cincinnati (March 4) and adding four goals and two assists against No. 18 Johns Hopkins (March 30). Kane also ranked second on the team with 37 draw control wins and added 23 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers to her stat line. For her efforts this season, Kane was one-of-three U-M players to be named to the All-Big Ten team.
Muir, a unanimous All-Big Ten team selection, collected 59 points this season to become the first player in Michigan history to eclipse the 50-point mark in a season. Her 21 assists also rank at the top of U-M's single-season record board. Muir recorded 12 multi-goal games with five hat tricks and scored in all but three games. The attacker had an 11-game point streak and notched a season-best seven points against No. 18 Johns Hopkins (March 30) with six goals and one assist, and added 19 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.
The four Wolverines are eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-America team which the IWLCA will celebrate during the Divisional All-American Specials, set to be aired on Lax Sports Network in mid-June.
