ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Sophomores Caitlin Muir and Maggie Kane, and senior Madison Richardson of the University of Michigan women's lacrosse team were named to the All-Big Ten team on Thursday (May 2).
The trio mark the fourth time that a Michigan player has been named to the list and join the company of Molly Garrett (2018), Kim Coughlin (2016) and Madeline Dion (2016). Muir and Richardson were both unanimous picks to the All-Big Ten team.
Muir, a sophomore attack, became the first player in the history of the program to surpass 50 points in a season with 51. Recently, the sophomore set Michigan's single-season points (51) and assists (19) records, surpassing Jess Angerman on both lists. Muir has found the back of the cage 32 times thus far to rank third on the team, while her 19 assists lead the Wolverines. The Honeoye Falls, New York, native has recorded 13 multi-point games this season, including a seven-point performance (six goals, one assist) against Johns Hopkins on March 30.
Kane heads into the Big Ten Tournament on the longest goal streak in the history of the Michigan program as she has scored in 22 straight games dating back to the 2018 campaign. The sophomore midfielder has netted 33 goals and has eight multi-goal games to rank second on the team in scoring. She has notched 36 points this season with 33 goals and three assists, while winning 32 draw controls, which ranks seventh in Michigan history for a single season.
Richardson has anchored the backline in her final season as a Wolverine, starting 16 games. The senior defender ranks third on the team with 17 caused turnovers and adds 21 ground balls to rank sixth. Richardson notched a season-best four ground balls at UC Davis on Feb. 9 and has had two games with three caused turnovers, most recently against Ohio State on March 21.
In addition to the three Big Ten honorees, senior Mira Shane earned U-M's Sportsmanship Award. Shane is a 2019 Tewaaraton Award nominee, having secured a program-best 12 wins this year and adding 115 saves in the cage. The Princeton, New Jersey, native was also a two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honoree in 2019 and earned Michigan's "Let Go Do" Rachael Townsend Leadership Award for making significant contributions to her community and her team.
The Wolverines will take on Northwestern on Friday (May 3) in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament in Baltimore, Maryland. First draw against the Wildcats is set for 7:30 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
