The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team is set to host Washington (2-3) on Friday (Feb. 8) and Central Florida (0-4) on Sunday (Feb. 10) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
• Michigan is 4-2 all-time against Washington. Most recently, the Wolverines beat Washington, 4-3, last season in Seattle in the first dual match of the season. Then a freshman, Mattias Siimar earned a straight-sets win, 6-3, 6-3, while playing at the No.3 spot before then-junior, Myles Schalet put U-M on the brink of the match victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No.4.
• The Wolverines are 1-0 in the all-time series against Central Florida. In their most recent matchup (March 3, 2018), Michigan beat the Knights, 4-1, at the USTA National Campus, in four straight singles matches after dropping the doubles point.
• Washington comes into the matchup after losing, 4-3, against Santa Clara last weekend. The Huskies clinched the doubles point and went up, 3-2, before losing on courts four and six.
• The Knights come into the weekend with a 0-4 record, with their most recent loss being against No.4 ranked Florida, 6-1, in their 2019 home opener. Central Florida is led by sophomore Mikhail Sokolovskiy, who has a 3-1 record in singles play, while playing in the No.6 spot in the lineup.
• Michigan is coming off strong weekend after defeating Cornell (Feb.1) and Oklahoma (Feb.2) at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines beat Cornell 4-1, after taking the doubles point and dropping their only point on court five. U-M carried its winning ways into the match against Oklahoma, beating the Sooners, 4-2. After dropping the doubles point and the first set in four of the six singles matches, the Wolverines battled back to notch the victory with wins from sophomore Mattias Siimar (No. 1), senior Myles Schalet (No. 2), and freshmen Andrew Fenty (No. 3) and Patrick Maloney (No. 6).
• Junior Connor Johnston leads the team with a 3-1 record in singles play, while playing at the No. 4 spot in the lineup. The duo of Mattias Siimar and Andrew Fenty are 3-1 in dual-match doubles play and have a team-leading eight wins on the season.
• The Maize and Blue will have a break next weekend but will wrap-up its seven-match homestand when it hosts Notre Dame on Saturday (Feb. 23), and then will travel to Cleveland State to take on the Vikings on Sunday, Feb.24.
