Wolverines Down Washington to Kick Off Weekend Homestand

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team earned a 5-2 win over Washington after taking the doubles point and four singles matches on Friday evening (Feb. 8) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Michigan earned its first point of the day by securing tie-breaker wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots during the doubles round. The Wolverines duo of junior Connor Johnston and sophomore Harrison Brown got the first win in doubles with a 7-6 (4) victory over the Huskies. Sophomore Mattias Siimar and freshman Andrew Fenty quickly followed with a 7-6 (5) win over the Huskies to clinch the doubles point for the Wolverines.
The Wolverines continued impressive play into the singles round as they took four of the six singles matches. The first win came from court two when Fenty won his match in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Shortly after, freshman Patrick Maloney followed with a straight-sets 6-4, 6-3 win over the Huskies. Mattias Siimar secured the Wolverines' win after defeating Washington's Enzo Sommer, 7-5, 6-2. Washington won its only two points of the evening on courts three and five. Â
The Wolverines completed their win over the Huskies when sophomore Kristofer Siimar won in three sets at the No. 6 spot.
Michigan will be back at the Varsity Tennis Center on Sunday (Feb.10) at noon when the Wolverines play host to Central Florida.
