ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Senior Brianna Brown finished off her career at the University of Michigan with an all-around score of 39.2375 at the NCAA Women's Gymnasatics Semifinal session 1 on Friday (April 20) in Chaifetz Arena.
"It is hard to believe that was my last," said Brown. "I feel like I need to go back to the gym on Monday and start training again. The meet was exciting and a lot of fun. I just wanted to go out there and hit four routines and I was able to do that."
Competing as an individual, Brown hit four solid routines in her final collegiate meet for the Wolverines, finishing 11th in the all-around during the first NCAA semifinal session.
Brown started the meet out on a strong note with a clean balance beam routine. She stuck her landing for a 9.800. As she ran back to the team corral, the LSU gymnastics team crowned her a beam queen by giving her their stick crown.
"I was pretty down when I first got to the meet because I wasn't with my team, but the girls and coaches with LSU were so nice and included me," said Brown. "One of my former club teammates, Lexie Priessman, is on their team and we got to hang out all week, which was great."
After a bye rotation, Brown headed over to floor exercise. She hit on all three of her floor passes and got a big hug from her coaches as she exited the podium with a score of 9.8125.
Vault has been Brianna's lowest-scoring event throughout her career. She recorded a 9.750 on Friday, a score that was close to what she put up in her freshman and sophomore seasons at the NCAA Championship.
Brown closed out the meet on bars, an event where she won two Big Ten titles during her career. She pieced together a fantastic routine and once again was given the stick crown as she posted her top score of the day, a 9.875 to tie for ninth on the event in the first session.
"I tried to go up and just act like it was another routine," said Brown. "I wanted to block out that it was my last routine and focus on my skills. I am very happy to end on a positive note."
In her four years at Michigan, Brown earned three postseason All-America honors, two regular season All-America citations, two individual Big Ten titles, two Big Ten regular-season championships and four Big Ten Championship rings. She was the 2015 Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Year, a three-time All-Big Ten selection and three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. She won 17 career event or all-around titles.
