The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan softball team (35-7, 10-1 Big Ten) will return to action -- for the first time in a week after weather wiped out three competition days -- with a three-game home series against Maryland at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field. The series kicks off with a 6 p.m. slate on Friday (April 20), continues at 2 p.m. on Saturday (April 21) and will wrap up with a 12:30 p.m. game on Sunday (April 22).
• The Wolverines sit atop the Big Ten standings halfway through the conference season with a 10-1 record and are a half-game ahead of Indiana, which owns a 10-2 league record. U-M has lost two conference games to weather. The Wolverines have 10 more conference games to play.
• U-M is 9-0 in home games this season after its wins against Rutgers last Friday (April 13). The Wolverines have outscored their home opposition, 66-4. Michigan posted a 17-0 record at Alumni Field during the regular season in 2017 but fell in their last appearance, a 5-4 upset loss to Michigan State in their Big Ten Tournament opener. U-M is 557-134-1 all-time at Alumni Field.
• After going 6-6 through its first 12 games of the season, Michigan has won 29 of its last 30 games and each of the last 11. U-M batted .225, averaged 2.9 runs per game and combined for a 1.24 earned-run average over the first 12 games. Over the last 30 games, the Wolverines have posted a .354 batting average, averaged 6.8 runs per game and posted a 1.01 team ERA.
• Meghan Beaubien leads the nation with 25 wins -- two more than North Carolina's Brittany Pickett in second place -- and became the sixth freshman pitcher in program history to hit the 20-win milestone, doing so in just 28 total appearances.
• Michigan ranks third in the nation with a 1.08 staff ERA, while Beaubien ranks top 10 nationally in several other categories, including ERA (0.81, 9th), hits allowed per game (2.95, 3rd) and shutouts (eight, eighth). Beaubien leads the Big Ten in every pitching category, while she, senior right-handed pitcher Tera Blanco and freshman RHP Sarah Schaefer rank 1-2-3 in the Big Ten in both individual ERA and hits allowed per seven innings.
• Michigan has earned shutouts in 20 of its 35 wins on the season and shares the third spot in the category's national rankings -- behind Florida (25) and Auburn (21) and tied with Washington.
• Michigan ranks second nationally with a .989 team fielding percentage -- just .0006 behind Oklahoma. Four U-M starters own 1.000 fielding percentages, including junior second baseman Faith Canfield and senior first baseman Tera Blanco. Last season, Michigan also ranked second in the nation with a .981 fielding percentage.
• The Wolverines have allowed just two unearned runs this season -- one on a passed ball against Notre Dame (Feb. 18) and one off the international tiebreaker in the eighth inning against Virginia Tech (Feb. 24). Michigan has not allowed a run off any of its 13 errors on the season.
• After a sluggish showing at the plate in its two midweek games last week, Michigan posted .436 batting average with 20 runs, five doubles and four home runs in its Rutgers doubleheader on Friday (April 13). Senior utility Aidan Falk hit .714 (5-for-7) and posted two homers -- both in the nightcap -- and five RBI to pace the Wolverines.
• Sophomores Madison Uden and Haley Hoogenraad have been on a tear of late and in their first season in the Wolverines' everyday lineup. Uden ranks second on the team with a .381 batting average and went 3-for-6 with five RBI -- the bulk off her first collegiate grand slam -- in the Rutgers doubleheader. Hoogenraad also batted .500 in the Rutgers series and is hitting a team-best .471 over the last 14 games since the Wolverines' ended their preseason tournament slate.
