ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team will wrap up its spring break trip this weekend with a four-game series at Stanford (March 2-4). The Wolverines will face off against the Cardinal in a single game on Friday (March 2) before playing a doubleheader on Saturday (March 3) and battling it out in the series finale on Sunday (March 4).
• The Wolverines are 0-4 on their spring break trip after dropping games to San Diego, Arizona, Cal Poly and San Diego State. The four-game skid is the program's worst in non-conference play since 2014.
• Michigan is 2-0 all-time against Stanford, with the last meeting occurring in 1983. To date, the Cardinal is on an eight-game win streak and is 7-0 when playing at home already this season. Junior outfielder Brandon Wulff currently leads Stanford with a .462 batting average, eight runs scored and a .548 on-base percentage.
• Sophomore outfielder Christan Bullock leads the Wolverines offensively with a .333 batting average through seven games played. Bullock also boasts a .417 on-base percentage as well as a team-leading four stolen bases and picked up the first extra-base hit of his career last weekend at San Diego.
• Junior Jonathan Engelmann is also hitting over the .300-mark, posting a .321 average with a team-leading nine hits. The outfielder also has three stolen bases on the season.
• Despite finishing the 2017 campaign ranked second in the country with a .983 fielding percentage, Michigan's defense has not been quite as solid in the 2018 season so far. The Wolverines have 13 errors on the season and have recorded at least one in each game.
• Last time out: The Wolverines took an early lead over the San Diego State Aztecs on Monday night (Feb. 26) but surrendered four runs in the fifth inning and fell by a 4-3 score at Tony Gwynn Stadium to close out the first half of U-M's West Coast road swing.
• Michigan opened the 2018 season with a three-game series against Army in Port St. Lucie, Florida, and returned to Ann Arbor having won two of the three contests. The series marked the third straight year that Michigan opened up its season at Tradition Field, as the Wolverines have played a series at the home of the Mets' High-A affiliate every season since 2007.
• A total of 14 Michigan players have made their debuts so far this season, including redshirt freshmen catchers Marcus Chavez and Harrison Salter as well as junior-transfers Blake Nelson and Matthew Schmidt. Additionally, freshmen Jack Blomgren (shortstop) and Jesse Franklin (designated hitter) got starting nods on opening day, while Joe Donovan, Danny Zimmerman, Logan Pollack, Jordan Nwogu, Ben Dragani and Blake Beers appeared in either pinch-hit or relief-pitching roles during the first weekend of play. Freshman pitchers Jeff Criswell and Angelo Smith also made their collegiate debuts in the Tony Gwynn Legacy tournament this past weekend in San Diego, California.
• Michigan's starting pitching was the story of the season-opening series against Army, as senior Alec Rennard and sophomores Tommy Henry and Karl Kauffmann did not allow an earned run through a combined 16 innings pitched. The trio surrendered 11 hits, two walks and struck out 12.
• The Wolverines are set to begin the 2018 season with contests against seven different teams in three different states, logging 8,732 miles before playing at home for the first time. Here is a complete breakdown of the team's non-conference travel schedule:
