Game Notes Nuggets
• Michigan has 12 players from the state of Ohio, including three starters: safety and team captain Tyree Kinnel (Huber Heights), long snapper Camaron Cheeseman (New Albany) and punter Will Hart (Hunting Valley). The other Wolverines from Ohio are FB Matt Brown (Solon), LB Noah Furbush (Kenton), OL Joel Honigford (Sugarcreek), WR Jake McCurry (Solon), DB Ryan McCurry (Solon), P Brad Robbins (Westerville), OL Greg Robinson (Hudson), LB Adam Shibley (Cleveland) and OL Nolan Ulizio (West Chester).
• Michigan has a number of players and coaches up for major awards. Defensive coordinator Don Brown is a Broyles Award semifinalist. Defensive players Devin Bush (finalist, Bronko Nagurski, Butkus; semifinalist, Walter Camp Player of the Year), Chase Winovich (semifinalist, Chuck Bednarik; candidate, Ted Hendricks) and Lavert Hill (semifinalist, Jim Thorpe) are among those honorees. Among offensive contributors, Shea Patterson (finalist, Unitas Golden Arm; semifinalist, Davey O'Brien) and Karan Higdon (semifinalist, Doak Walker, Walter Camp Player of the Year) are in contention for national honors.
• Michigan's defense remains among the nation's most elite. U-M leads the Big Ten in five of eight major categories: scoring defense, total defense, pass defense, pass efficiency defense, and first downs allowed.
• U-M (2,583 yards) and Clemson (2,798 yards) are the only defenses in the FBS that have allowed fewer than 3,000 yards of total offense this season.
• U-M has suffocated opposing quarterbacks to a tune of a 47.1 percent completion percentage (130-of-276) on the season and has allowed just 1.72 red zone opportunities per contest.
• Linebacker Devin Bush was named a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Award last week and today was recognized as a Butkus Award finalist. Bush matched a season best with his 11-tackle total against Indiana, adding 1.5 tackles for loss and half a sack. He is the leading tackler on the nation's top defense and ranks No. 2 in TFLs and sacks.
• The Wolverines have put up points in 37 of 44 quarters this season, including 15 of the last 16.
• Freshman kicker Jake Moody made his placekicking debut last weekend against Indiana and kicked his way into school and conference record books along the way. Moody was 6-for-6, hitting field goals at 23, 29, 30, 31, 32, and 33 yards. Those six made field goals are a single-game Michigan record as well as a Big Ten record for conference games, and Moody's 19 points are a single-game kick scoring record at U-M. His historic debut earned him a share of the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week award.

• Named a top-five finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award last week, quarterback Shea Patterson continued a productive November by accumulating his first game as a Wolverine with over 300 yards of total offense (250 passing, 68 rushing) against Indiana.
• Patterson threw an interception last weekend, just his fourth of the year and his first in more than a month (Oct. 6, Maryland). Patterson's 1.56 percent interception rate (four interceptions on 255 attempts) would match the single-season Michigan record if the season ended today.
• Michigan's tight ends remain a weapon for the team, as Nick Eubanks got in the action last weekend with his first career touchdown on the longest reception of his career (41 yards). He became the third tight end to score for U-M this season and the eighth pass-catcher who has caught a Patterson touchdown throw.
• Zach Gentry entered last week's game against Indiana with no career receptions longer than 40 yards but ended the day with two such catches -- 41 and 42 yards -- to set and break his career high. Gentry has at least one reception in 15 straight games dating to last year.
• Running back Karan Higdon ranks 13th nationally in rushing (110.6 yards per game) and is up to eight games this season with at least 100 yards rushing. For his career, Michigan is 13-0 when Higdon rushes for 100 yards or more.
