The No. 27 University of Michigan men's cross country team will close out its regular season on Friday (Oct. 19) as its younger and less-experienced runners compete at the Eastern Michigan Fall Classic.
The five-kilometer (3.11-mile) race over the Hudson Mills Metropark course just north of Dexter, Michigan, will begin at 5 p.m. against similar contingents from Eastern Michigan, Michigan State, Kalamazoo, Lansing CC, Toledo and Windsor.
A women's race at 4:30 p.m. will directly precede the men's race.
Spectators are subject to a $10 entry fee into the Metropark.
Competing for the Wolverines are redshirt senior Ryan Wilkie, redshirt junior Kevin Hall and redshirt freshmen Dominic Dimambro, Christian Hubaker and Lewis Tate. A number of first-year Wolverines will also compete as "unattached" runners, meaning they will not be wearing the team uniforms.
The squad for next weekend's Big Ten Championships is largely determined and resting up ahead of the attempted defense of their 2017 conference title. Big Tens will be hosted by Nebraska on Sunday, Oct. 28.
Things to Know
• Led by former Great Lakes Region and two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year Kevin Sullivan, the U-M men dropped seven spots from No. 20 to No. 27 in the National Coaches' Poll and fell two spots to No. 3 in the latest Great Lakes Regional rankings announced Tuesday (Oct. 16) and Monday (Oct. 15), respectively, by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
• The next edition of the rankings and polls will be announced Monday, Oct. 29 and Tuesday Oct. 30, respectively.
• Michigan was ranked No. 4 in last year's preseason regional rankings before going on to finish second at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional to secure one of the region's two automatic berths to the NCAA Championships. The Wolverines trail Big Ten rivals Wisconsin (1), Purdue (3) and Indiana (4) in the rankings, as well as Notre Dame (2).
• Among Big Ten teams nationally, Michigan is ranked fourth behind No. 3 Wisconsin, No. 18 Purdue and No. 22 Indiana. Michigan State is also receiving votes in the poll.
• The Wolverines were among the deepest teams in the field at the Pre-National Invitational last weekend, but did not have the frontrunning firepower to keep pace in the team race. The Wolverines were 11th in the "Cardinal Race" despite being one of just two teams in the race with seven top-100 finishers and the smallest time spread between its No. 1 and No. 5 runners at 12.5 seconds.
• Jack Aho led the way for the Wolverines in a 53rd-place individual finish, with Isaac Harding (62nd), Jordy Hewitt (74th), Jacob Lee (75th) and John Tatter (79th) rounding out the scoring lineup.
