GRAND LAKE, Colo. -- The 2017 University of Michigan women's lacrosse team, as well as recent graduates Emily Braun and Margaret Metzger, were recognized for their academic success by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) today (Wednesday, July 26).
The 2017 Wolverines were honored as an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad for the 2016-17 academic year. To qualify for this honor, the team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.
In addition to the team success, Braun and Metzger were named to the IWLCA Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or better.
Braun and Metzger, Michigan natives from Grand Rapids and Bloomfield Hills, respectively, each graduated from Michigan in April 2017. Braun, U-M's 2017 Big Ten Sportsmanship honoree, earned a bachelor's degree in movement science and is gaining experience in patient care in the Chicago area before returning to Physical Assistant School in the near future. Metzger, a two-time team captain, majored in psychology with a minor in biology, and will continue her education in the fall in U-M's Ross School of Business Master of Management program.
The pair was previously recognized by the Big Ten for the academic accomplishments, earning Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten honors this year.
