• Team Captains: Jess Angerman, Tess Korten, Margaret Metzger, Anna Schueler
• Record: 5-12 overall, 1-5 Big Ten Conference (6th place)
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team completed its fourth season as a varsity program in 2017, which was highlighted by the program's first Big Ten win against Ohio State, dramatic improvement on the draw and several individual milestones. For the first time in program history, the Wolverines had four full classes of student-athletes on their roster and graduated their first senior class. At the team's annual postseason banquet, the 15 seniors were each honored with the inaugural Legacy Award for their impact on the new program throughout their four years.
Team Highlights
• Michigan defeated Ohio State, 12-11, in overtime to record its first Big Ten Conference win in program history. Kim Coughlan scored the game-winning goal in overtime to finish with three goals, while Lauren Oberlander had a game-high four markers.
• Michigan won the draw control in 12 of 17 games, pulling in a total of 244 draw controls, which is the most by the Wolverines in a single season (previous was 198 in 2014). U-M finished third in the Big Ten in draw controls per game, averaging 14.4, a dramatic improvement from its 10.5 average in 2016.
• Jess Angerman, Tess Korten, Margaret Metzger and Anna Schueler represented Michigan as team captains for the second straight season.
• The 2017 roster included a senior class for the first time in program history, which became the program's first graduating class in April. Over their four-year careers, the group of 15 that remained from Team One combined to tally 631 goals, 196 assists and 827 points.
Individual Highlights
• Coughlan, Angerman and Schueler became the first three players in program history to reach 100 career goals. Coughlan was the first to reach the milestone and finished her career with a program-record 124 goals, while Angerman and Schueler followed and recorded 111 and 109 goals, respectively, in their careers. Angerman, Schueler and Coughlan each surpassed 100 career points during the 2016 season and built upon those milestones in 2017, finishing as the top three point-getters in program history -- Angerman (166), Schueler (157) and Coughlan (141). Korten also joined the 100-point club in 2017, finishing her career with 124 points.
• Coughlan set a new program record with an eight-goal performance against Rutgers. She was rewarded for her efforts, being named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and HERO Sports Hero of the Week.
• Coughlan received Michigan's Excellence Award at the team's annual banquet after leading the Wolverines in goals for the second consecutive season, tallying 36 goals in 2016 and 2017.
• Schueler led Michigan in draw controls with 90 and was third in the Big Ten in draw controls per game, averaging 5.29. She set a program record for draw controls in a game with 10 against No. 1 Maryland and finished her career with a program-best 239 draw controls.
• Goalies Mira Shane and Alli Kothari split time in cage for the Wolverines. Shane was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week (March 21) after helping Michigan earn its first Big Ten win over Ohio State. Kothari's season was highlighted by a 15-save performance at Stanford, which stands at the top of Michigan's all-time list for saves in a game.
• Coughlan capped her career by representing Michigan in the IWLCA Senior All-Star Game. As a member of U-M's first senior class, she was the first Wolverine to be selected to the game. Coughlan scored two goals, helping the North Team win by a score of 16-11.
