
Michigan Travels to NYC to Face LIU Brooklyn

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 22-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (4-2) hits the road for the first of two straight road games, heading to LIU Brooklyn (3-3) to take on the Blackbirds on Saturday (Dec. 2) at the Steinberg Wellness Center at noon.
• Michigan is headed back to New York for a game for the first time since the 2013-14 season. U-M made two trips to the Empire State that season, kicking off the year with a tournament at Iona and playing at the Barclays Center over Thanksgiving. Head coach Kim Barnes Arico grew up in Mastic Beach, New York.
• U-M is hitting the road for the first of two straight games away from Crisler Center. U-M will play at LIU Brooklyn on Saturday (Dec. 2) before heading to Detroit for a Monday evening (Dec. 4) contest. After that, U-M will play six straight at Crisler Center to end the non-conference portion of the season and start Big Ten play.
• Michigan is entering a busy stretch of its season, playing five games in the next 11 days before exams begin. U-M will play two on the road and then have home games on Dec. 7 (Marquette), Dec. 10 (Kent State) and North Florida (Dec. 12) to complete the busy time. U-M will play two more non-conference games against Fort Wayne (Dec. 16) and Delaware State (Dec. 21) to conclude non-conference play.
• LIU Brooklyn (3-3) enters the contest after a 67-49 win over NJIT on Wednesday (Nov. 29). The Blackbirds are averaging 55.2 points per game on 34.5 percent shooting from the floor and 34.2 percent shooting from three-point range. LIU Brooklyn features a pair of double-figure scorers in Denisha Petty-Evans (17.2 ppg) and Jeydah Johnson (13.3 ppg). It is the first meeting between the two schools.
• LIU Brooklyn is one of six first-time opponents for the Wolverines during their 13-game non-conference schedule. In addition to the Blackbirds, U-M played George Mason and Liberty for the first time. The Wolverines will also start new series against North Florida, Fort Wayne and Delaware State.
• Michigan cut down on its turnovers in its loss to No. 3 Notre Dame, committing just nine miscues to 11 for the Irish. It was a season-low for Michigan, which was coming off a 23-turnover game against Ohio. It was the first time this season that U-M was in single digits.
