Michigan is now 8-1 all-time against Maryland. It is also the team's first visit to the Xfinity Center since 2008.
With the win, U-M improves to 4-0 in the Big Ten. It has one more dual -- Friday at Michigan State -- before taking a three-week, non-conference break. It faces the final four teams (Minnesota, Penn State, Iowa, Rutgers) in a five-team meet on March 14 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The Wolverines had only one fall on Saturday (Talia Chiarelli on balance beam), putting its season hit percentage at 96.6 percent (115 of 119). It was Chiarelli's first fall on any apparatus in her collegiate career. She was 48-for-48 prior to the fall.
Both Austin Sheppard (9.925) and Brooke Parker (9.900) set career highs on uneven bars, while Lindsay Williams (9.900) and Brianna Brown set career highs on balance beam.
Sachi Sugiyama established a new career high in the all-around (39.525). She went 39.500 last Saturday against Nebraska, which was her previous career best.
For the fifth consecutive meet, Nicole Artz, Sachi Sugiyama and Brianna Brown each recorded top-three finishes in the all-around.
Eight of U-M's routines had at least a tenth-of-a-point difference between the two judges (four on uneven bars, two on vault, two on floor exercise).
For only the second time in 18 career floor exercise routines, Nicole Artz failed to score at least a 9.800. The only other time she scored below a 9.800 was the second meet of her career at North Carolina State (Jan. 17, 2014) when she scored 9.650.
Several alums were in attendance: Joanna Sampson, Teresa Arthur, Shelby Gies, Wendy Marshall, Katie Nellans, Kristin Duff and Bridget Knaeble.
