COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team suffered its second conference defeat of the season, falling at Ohio State, 71-52, on Tuesday night (Jan. 13) inside Value City Arena. The Buckeyes scored the first 13 points of the second half and never looked back.
Junior Caris LeVert led the Wolverines with 14 points on 4-of-10 shooting, and sophomore Zak Irvin scored 11 points and grabbed five boards. Freshman Mark Donnal posted eight points (3-of-7 shooting) and four rebounds.
D'Angelo Russell hit a triple to give the OSU a 7-3 lead three minutes into the game, but Michigan came back to tie the score after a LeVert floater and a basket by junior Spike Albrecht. Irvin drained a baseline jumper, and a three to put U-M on top, 12-9, but Ohio State used a 15-2 run to take a 24-14 lead with 8:44 left in the first half.
LeVert made a three to cut the Michigan deficit to single digits, but the Buckeyes came back with three straight baskets to put them up 30-17 at 5:18. Ohio State continued to outscore Michigan for the remainder of the half and held a 39-24 lead heading into the break.
