With today's win, Michigan improves to 109-56 all-time against Northwestern, with a record of 63-20 in games played in Ann Arbor. U-M has won seven straight in the series and 10 of the last 14 against the Wildcats.
The Wolverines forced 12 turnovers from the Wildcats while turning the ball over a season-low three times themselves, including just once in the second half. U-M outscored Northwestern, 17-2, in points off turnovers.
The last time U-M posted three or fewer turnovers in a game was during the 2013-14 campaign at home against Michigan State (February 23, 2014).
U-M held Northwestern to only six free-throw attempts. The Wildcats had been averaging 16.5 attempts from the charity stripe coming into tonight's game.
The Wolverines knocked down nine three-pointers tonight. It marked the 12th time this season that U-M has tallied at least eight triples in a game and the fourth time in six Big Ten contests.
U-M swiped six steals from Northwestern in tonight's contest, led by three from Derrick Walton Jr., one shy of his career-high tally. The team's mark is right on par with its average of 6.2 steals per contest.
Spike Albrecht was held out of tonight's game with an upper respiratory infection, ending his streak of 93 consecutive games played since joining the U-M program. Tonight's game marks the first time he has missed a game in his organized basketball career.
Replacing Albrecht in the starting lineup was Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman, who made his first career start. Abdur-Rahkman finished with nine points (4-of-7 from the field) and grabbed five rebounds in 25 minutes of action, giving him career-best marks in points, rebounds and minutes.
Caris LeVert finished with a team-high 18 points, seven assists, six rebounds and one block. LeVert is one of six players in the nation and the only in the Power 5 Conferences to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists and blocks this season.
Derrick Walton Jr. tallied 14 points and nailed a career-high four three-point field goals.
Attendance for tonight's game was a sold-out 12,707.
