Not Just Another Face in the Crowd
MONDAY | APRIL 7, 2008
Sarah Curtis doesn't normally like to see her picture in newspapers or magazines, but in this case she'll make an exception.
Sarah was chosen as one of Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd" for its April 7 issue, earning the coveted spot after a standout performance against Georgia in March. As for her appearance in one of the premier sports magazines in the country, Sarah was a little speechless when she heard the news.
"It's exciting," she said. "Sports Illustrated is a big magazine and it's cool to know I'm a part of it."
After sitting out her entire freshman season with an injury, Sarah has been getting a lot of media attention in 2008, from school newspapers, local publications and now a national magazine.
"I feel excited about all the attention," said Sarah. "After last year, to see your name in print and know you're contributing is exciting. It's embarrassing to see pictures of yourself in The Michigan Daily. We talk about that sometimes as gymnasts, wondering why they had to choose the pictures they did, but we're always happy to get our program publicity."
With two meets left, Sarah is hoping to make a big splash on the big stage. She already has an interview lined up with a daily paper in Corvallis, Ore., site of the West Regional, and with CBS televising the 2008 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships, who knows how many chances Sarah will get to be embarrassed by seeing her picture this year.
