
Pruitt, Belitsos Lead Wolverines at Cal Invitational

BERKELEY, Calif. -- Junior/sophomore Sean Pruitt(Cato, Wis./Valders HS) posted an NCAA Mideast Regional qualifying mark and personal record in the shot put Saturday (April 26) to lead the University of Michigan men's track and field team at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational at Cal's Edwards Stadium.
A week after posting his first regional mark in the event at Eastern Michigan last week, Pruitt won the shot put with a mark of 57-0 3/4 (17.39m), nearly two feet better than his previous best.
Redshirt freshman Nicholas McCampbell(Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech HS) finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.54, more than half a second faster than his preliminary time.
During the Friday events at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, junior/sophomore Vince Belitsos(Leonard, Mich./Oxford HS) posted an NCAA Mideast Regional mark and a new personal record of 196-9 (59.96m) in the hammer throw to place fourth among the 12-man championship final. Belitsos shattered by more than five feet his previous best (191-7), which he registered at the Yellow Jacket Invitational earlier this season. Pruitt posted a regional mark in the event as well, taking fifth with a toss of 195-2 (59.48m).
Pruitt also competed in the discus throw, an event in which he posted a regional mark last week at Eastern Michigan. This week Pruitt finished third in the event with his second longest distance of the year, 165-9 (50.47m).
Following suit, a week after setting a personal record of 15-7 (4.75m) at the Eastern Michigan Invitational, junior/sophomore Chris Baldwin(Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview HS) headlined the Wolverines in the pole vault, finishing first in section 'B' with a mark of 15-1 (4.60m).
Freshman Carl Buchanon(South Bend, Ind./Clay HS) also set a new PR, finishing fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.98, 0.87 faster than his previous best that he set against Ohio State.
The Wolverines will travel to Columbus, Ohio, for the Jesse Owens Track Classic on Friday and Saturday (May 2-3) at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
