COLUMBUS , Ohio -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team registered four NCAA regional qualifying performances along with three personal records in two events Friday night (May 2) on day one of the Jesse Owens Memorial Track Classic in Ohio State's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The 1,500-meter run was the showcase event for the Maize and Blue, as two Michigan athletes claimed NCAA Mideast Regional qualifying times. Junior/sophomore Sean McNamara(Elmhurst, Ill./York HS) led the Wolverines in the event, finishing fourth with a regional time of 3:47.34. Junior Justin Switzer(Waterford, Mich./Kettering HS) kept pace with McNamara to finish fifth 3:47.60 and was followed in the lead pack by freshman Craig Forys(Howell, N.J./Colts Neck HS), who finished seventh with a time of 3:50.85.
Junior/sophomore Sean Pruitt(Cato, Wis./Valders HS) posted an NCAA Mideast Regional qualifying mark and personal record in the discus. Pruitt finished seventh in the event, surpassing his previous best by more than five-feet with a toss 177-5 (54.08m) to claim his second regional mark of the season in the event. Senior/junior Dan Bedoya(Muskegon, Mich./Reeths-Puffer HS) also posted a new PR in the discus with a mark of 150-7 (45.91m), which is more than six feet farther than his previous best that he set at the Eastern Michigan Invite (April 19).
Junior/sophomore Brandon Fellows(Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island HS) was the lone Wolverine competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He finished 23rd in the event with his best time of the season, a 9:19.80.
The Wolverines will continue action at the Jesse Owens Track Classic Saturday (May 3) at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The events are slated to begin at 3 p.m.
