YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Despite sending only six athletes and not having a participant in 10 of the 20 events, members of the No. 12 ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team were able to tally 200 points to finish in seventh place out of nine teams at the EMU Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 1-2) at Jones Natatorium. Every Wolverine that swam in an event was able to place in the top 10 spots. The majority of the team was at the U.S. Open in West Lafayette, Ind. All events at the EMU Invite were held in a 25-yard short course.
Sophomore Kyle Schroeder (Milan, Mich./Milan) won both the three- and one-meter diving events with NCAA zone diving qualifying marks of 326.55 and 317.90, respectively. His performances surpassed his previous qualifying scores of 323.70 (at Georgia, Nov. 4) and 308.63 (at EMU, Oct. 20) that he set earlier this season. Senior Jon Donadee (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) also did well, finishing third in both springboard events.
The other Wolverines competing at the EMU Invitational were freshman Chris Dukatz (Troy, Mich./Birmingham Brother Rice), sophomore Charlie Kennedy (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township), sophomore Jamie Martone (Troy, Mich./Troy) and sophomore Gunnar Schmidt (Scottsdale, Ariz./Arcadia). Dukatz took third place in both the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.41) and the 100-yard butterfly (50.91) as well as a sixth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:37.85).
Michigan will have a month off before getting back into action against the Mexican National Team on Jan. 2 at La Loma, Mexico.
