NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Four players from the University of Michigan women's soccer team have been selected to All-Great Lakes Region squads by Soccer Buzz magazine. Senior/junior captain Lindsey Cottrell (Kalamazoo, Mich./Central) highlighted the awards with a mention on the All-Great Lakes Region second team. Teammates Melissa Dobbyn (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) and Megan Tuura (Tucker, Ga./St. Pius X Catholic) earned third team honors, with Amy Klippert (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) being named to the all-freshman team.
Cottrell started all 22 games for the Wolverines, and the honor adds to her already impressive 2006 resume. Following the completion of the regular season, the captain was named to the All-Big Ten second team and garnered U-M's Big Ten Sportsmanship award. Also excelling in the classroom, Cottrell has two 2006 academic awards to her credit. She is an Academic All-Big Ten selection, and was honored for her excellent play and academic ability in being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV first team.
Tuura had her most productive season as a Wolverine during her senior season, posting a career-best 0.60 goals-against average and tying a single-season career best with seven shutouts. Despite missing two games due to injury, Tuura recorded a 9-4-5 record and made 72 saves in 20 starts while allowing 12 goals. She completes her career ranked No. 1 in program history in minutes played (6,914:14) and second in career GAA (1.14), career shutouts (20) and career saves (322). This season, Tuura was a member of the Big Ten All-Tournament team and an All-Big Ten second team selection. The Tucker, Ga., native also succeeded in the classroom, earning Academic All-Big Ten accolades and a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV third team.
Dobbyn once again climbed the charts in the Michigan record book with a productive season, tallying four goals and six assists to lead the team in points (14). She tied for the team lead in game-winning goals (3) and started all 22 games. Dobbyn set a new program record for shots in a single-season with 95. She also garnered a 2006 Academic All-Big Ten certificate. Dobbyn currently ranks second in program history in career shots (271) and seventh in career points (67).
Amy Klippert started all 20 games she played in during her first season at Michigan and, along with Cottrell and Tuura, helped the Wolverines defense tie a program record with 20 goals allowed. Klippert solidified the right defense spot on a steady Maize and Blue back line.
