2006 Schedule Brings Georgia, Utah, Regional to Crisler

2006 U-M Women's Gymnastics Schedule
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The 2006 University of Michigan women's gymnastics schedule features meets against three teams from the 2005 Super Six, including the defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs. Michigan will also be host to the 2006 NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on April 8 in Crisler Arena.
The schedule is highlighted by meets vs. No. 1 Georgia, No. 3 Utah and No. 6 Nebraska, as well as a Big Ten showdown with No. 10 Penn State early in the season.
As well as hosting Big Ten rivals Ohio State and Michigan State, the Wolverines will host No. 18 New Hampshire before heading on the road to face No. 23 Denver and No. 30 Southern Utah. The Wolverines will also compete in their 11th State of Michigan Classic, held this season in Mt. Pleasant, Mich.
The first chance fans will have to see the Wolverines will be Dec. 10 in U-M's annual intrasquad meet at Crisler Arena.
U-M opens the season with a pair of road trips, taking on No. 6 Nebraska (Jan. 14) and No. 10 and Big Ten runner-up Penn State (Jan. 21). In February, No. 3 Utah (Feb. 11) and No. 18 New Hampshire (Feb. 17) pay visits to Crisler Arena, and one month later defending national champion Georgia (March 11) comes to Ann Arbor, followed by a regular-season finale against Michigan State (March 17).
The 2005 Big Ten Championships is scheduled for March 25 in East Lansing, Mich., where U-M looks to capture its eighth conference title in a row. The 2005 NCAA Northeast Regional will be held on April 8 in Crisler Arena with six teams competing for a berth in the NCAA Preliminaries held in Corvallis, Ore., on the campus of Oregon State University.
The Wolverines finished the 2005 season with a 22-2 record and a perfect 13-0 mark against conference opponents while making their 13th straight NCAA Championship appearance. The Wolverines remained one of only five programs in the nation to qualify for each of the last 13 NCAA Championships and won their seventh straight Big Ten title, giving U-M a conference-best 14 crowns in all. Head coach Bev Plocki also recorded the 300th win of her career, improving to 306-86 (.778) in her career and posting her ninth 20-win season.
All-Americans Lindsey Bruck (Marietta, N.Y./Marcellus), Jenny Deiley (Dayton, Minn./Elk River), Katie Lieberman (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and Lauren Mirkovich (Burlingame, Calif./Notre Dame) return, along with defending Big Ten floor exercies co-champion Becca Clauson (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) as Michigan looks to build on its No. 5 national finish in 2005 and advance to the NCAA Championships for the 14th year in row.
