Domino's Swim Classic Coming to Canham Natatorium

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan and Club Wolverine will be hosting the 2001 Domino's Swim Classic on May 18-20, 2001. This meet is the first stop on the USA Swimming-Grand Prix Swim Series and is being held at Canham Natatorium on the U-M campus. The event will feature several 2000 Olympians and 2001 World Championship team members.
The meet will include over 500 athletes, ranging in age from 12-28 from across the nation. Notable athletes and their events include:
- Tom Malchow -- 2000 Olympic gold medalist and 1996 Olympic silver medalist in 200 butterfly, swims for Club Wolverine
- Chris Thompson -- 2000 Olympic bronze medalist and American record holder in 1,500 freestyle, swims for Club Wolverine
- Ian Crocker -- 2000 Olympic gold medalist in 400 medley relay, also swam 100 butterfly, swims for Texas Aquatic
- Neil Walker -- 2000 Olympic gold medalist (400 medley relay) and silver medalist (400 freestyle relay), swims for Texas Aquatic
- Tommy Hannan -- 2000 Olympic gold medalist in 400 medley relay, swims for University of Texas
- Kristy Kowal -- 2000 Olympic silver medalist in 200 breaststroke, swims for Athens Bulldogs
- Courtney Shealy -- 2000 Olympic gold medalist in 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay
- Michael Phelps -- current record holder in 200 butterfly, swims for North Baltimore Aquatics
Preliminary events will begin at 9 a.m. each morning, with finals following at 6 p.m. each night. Tickets are $3 for prelims and $5 for finals and can be purchased at the door. After stopping in Ann Arbor, the swim classic will continue on across the nation to Charlotte, N.C.; Santa Clara, Calif.; Long Island, N.Y.; and Los Angeles, Calif.
