Wolverines to Face Marquette in NCAA First Round

Head coach Debbie Rademacher's Wolverines (12-7-1, 8-2 Big Ten) will travel to Milwaukee, Wis., to face host Marquette University (16-5, 8-2 Conference USA) in the NCAA first round on Friday (Nov. 16) at 7:30 p.m. CST at Valley Fields. The winner advances to the second round to meet either Dartmouth or Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Sunday (Nov. 18) at 1 p.m. CST at Valley Fields.
The NCAA first-round contest will be the first meeting between Michigan and Marquette, which will be making its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Golden Eagles recently dropped the Conference USA Tournament title game 1-0 to Cincinnati on Saturday (Nov. 10).
The Wolverines lost 2-1 in overtime to Illinois in semifinal action of the Big Ten Conference Tournament Friday (Nov. 9) in West Lafayette, Ind. U-M was 8-2 in Big Ten regular-season play, good for a second-place finish. Michigan is 3-4 in NCAA Tournament action, with first-round wins at home the past three years when the tournament was a 48-team event.
Michigan is one of three Big Ten teams in the NCAA Tournament, joining regular-season and tournament champion Penn State and Big Ten Tournament runner-up Illinois.
The NCAA Tournament third round (Nov. 23-25) and quarterfinals (Nov. 30-Dec. 2) will be played at campus sites. The national semifinals (Dec. 7) and championship (Dec. 9) will be played at Gerald J. Stadium in Dallas, Texas, with Southern Methodist University serving as host of the 20th annual NCAA Division I Women's College Cup.
