Werner Shares Big Ten Athlete of the Week Award

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Senior captain Scott Werner (Haymarket, Va./Paul VI HS) of the University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team has been selected as the Big Ten Conference co-Swimmer of the Week for his outstanding performance at the Indiana dual (Jan. 27). Werner shares the award with Ohio State's Brian Malich.
Werner captured two individual first-place finishes and swam on one winning relay team against Indiana this past weekend. Individual victories came in the 200-yard individual medley (1:50.59) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.42). Werner was also a member of the first-place 400-yard medley relay team that finished with a time of 3:21.34.

This marks the second time this month that Werner has earned Athlete of the Week honors from the Big Ten, adding to his Swimmer of the Week selection on Jan. 9.
The No. 9-ranked Wolverines travel to Michigan State on Saturday (Feb. 3) to take on the Spartans in Big Ten dual action at 1 p.m.
