Urbanchek Named U.S. Olympic Team Assistant Coach

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's swimming coach Jon Urbanchek will be an assistant coach for the United States Men's Swimming Olympic Team at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. The announcement was made by USA Swimming following the Olympic Swimming Team Trials Aug. 9-16 in Indianapolis.
Urbanchek, entering his 19th season with the Michigan swimming program, is no stranger to the Olympic coaching ranks. This is the fifth consecutive Olympics as an assistant coach for Urbanchek, who also served in 1984, 1988, 1992 and 1996.
Joining Urbanchek on the U.S. squad are current Michigan senior Chris Thompson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg HS), who will swim the 1,500-meter freestyle, and former Wolverines Tom Malchow (200-meter butterfly) and Tom Dolan (200- and 400-meter individual medley).
The Olympic swimming competition will run Sept. 16-23 at the Sydney International Aquatic Centre.
