ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team has received a National Letter of Intent from Brendan Neligan (Hempstead, N.Y./Arch Bishop Molloy HS) during the November early signing period.
Neligan's accomplishments include prep Academic All-America honors (2000), a USA Swimming national championship in the 800-meter freestyle (1998) and a 10th-place finish at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 1500-meter freestyle.
Michigan head coach Jon Urbanchek thinks he is bringing in a complete student-athlete. "Brendan is an awesome distance talent and incredible student. His academics are as attractive as his swimming abilities. He's the No. 1 swimming academic All-American coming out of high school."
The Wolverines are 1-2 this season and will head to the competitive Texas Invitational on Friday-Sunday (Dec. 1-3) in Austin, Texas.
