Andrew Ebbett (19) scored a pair of goals to help Canada win the bronze-medal game.
Michigan at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics
Six athletes with ties to the University of Michigan competed in the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, with Wolverines medaling in both ice hockey and ice dancing for the third straight Winter Games. Andrew Ebbett picked up a hockey bronze medal with Canada, while ice dancing siblings Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani earned a pair of bronzes representing the United States.
Ebbett, a four-year Michigan letterman (2003-06), scored his first two Olympic goals in the bronze-medal game as Canada topped the Czech Republic 6-4. He and former U-M teammate Chad Kolarik (2005-08) both made their Olympic debuts in Pyeongchang. Kolarik played in two games for Team USA, which exited the competition with a shootout loss to the Czech Republic in the quarterfinal round.
After contributing to Team USA's bronze-medal performance in the team figure skating competition, the "ShibSibs" added another bronze in ice dancing in their second Olympic appearance, trailing only record efforts by teams from Canada and France.
In his third Olympics, U-M graduate Evan Bates served as captain of the 2018 USA figure skating team for Pyeongchang. He and ice dancing partner Madison Chock placed ninth.
Former Wolverine football player Sam McGuffie made his Olympic debut as part of the United States bobsled team. His two-man team finished 25th, while his four-man sled claimed ninth place.
