CALGARY, Alberta -- University of Michigan ice hockey alumnus Andrew Ebbett (2002-06) was named to the Team Canada hockey roster for the 2018 Winter Olympics on Thursday (Jan. 11).
Ebbett was a four-year standout for the Maize and Blue, amassing 143 points (38 goals, 105 assists). He helped lead U-M to three CCHA Tournament Titles (2002, 03, 05) and was awarded the Hal Downes Trophy and the Howard Colby Award in 2006.
After captaining the Wolverines in his senior year, Ebbett was signed as a free agent by the Ottawa Senators on July 17, 2006. He is currently playing for the Swiss club, SC Bern of the National League A (NLA) and helped lead it to the 2016 Swiss Championship Title, scoring five goals and 10 assists in 14 playoff contests. Through 37 games this season he has registered 41 points (12G, 29A). He has also won the Spengler Cup with Team Canada for two consecutive years (2016, 17).
Prior to his time in Switzerland, Ebbett spent nine seasons playing professionally in North America, appearing in the NHL with the Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Wild, Phoenix Coyotes, Vancouver Canucks and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Ebbett will become the 16th Wolverine to compete in hockey at the Winter Olympics (eight USA, four Canada, one Austrian, one Japan and one Sweden) and second alum to compete in these Olympics for hockey alongside former teammate Chad Kolarik, who will be representing Team USA.
The XXIII Olympic Winter Games are set to begin on Feb. 9 in Pyeongchang County, South Korea. Team Canada will kick off the preliminary rounds on Thursday, Feb. 15, against Switzerland.
