Notes
• Michigan's forward corps is led by a talented group of returners, including juniors Michael Hage and Will Horcoff. Hage returns after leading the nation in assists and finishing fourth nationally in points; Horcoff ranked among the nation's top skaters in goals and power-play tallies while leading the country in game-winning goals.
• Senior captain Garrett Schifsky and senior Nick Moldenhauer had career years last season and bring a veteran presence to an explosive offense. The depth is highlighted by an additional eight NHL draft picks, including two in the first round in freshmen Jack Nesbitt and J.P. Hurlbert.
• On the blue line, alternate captains Ben Robertson and Asher Barnett will lead a group of seven veterans and three freshmen, including CHL Memorial Cup champion Cam Reid, as well as Landon DuPont, one of the NHL's top prospects in the 2027 Draft.
• U-M enters the 2026-27 season retaining all three of its goalies, including top goalie prospect Jack Ivankovic, who finished second in the nation in wins last season with 25 despite being sidelined for four weeks due to injury. Also returning is sophomore Stephen Peck, who holds a perfect 6-0 record at Michigan, including an overtime win over rival Michigan State.
• Michigan was selected to finish first in the 2026-27 Big Ten Preseason Poll, the first time the Wolverines have topped the Big Ten preseason poll since the 2015-16 season.
• Four Wolverines also earned Preseason All-Big Ten honors, led by Hage, the lone unanimous first-team selection. Ivankovic and DuPont joined Hage on the first team, while senior forward Jayden Perron earned second-team honors.
• Michigan continues to bolster its roster with NHL draft picks, adding four more in Reid (Nashville Predators), Nesbitt (Philadelphia Flyers), Hurlbert (Detroit Red Wings) and Kieren Dervin (Vancouver Canucks). These skaters join 12 other NHL prospects on the roster, including sophomore forward Adam Valentini (Utah Mammoth), who was drafted in the third round in 2026.
• Michigan finished the regular season with 26 wins for the first time since 2008-09. Last year's group was Michigan's sixth to begin a season with an unblemished 7-0 record. It was also the ninth team in program history to win nine games or more out of the first 10.
• U-M has gone 11 straight seasons without an 0-2 start. The last group to drop their first two games was the 2014-15 team captained by Andrew Copp, Zach Hyman and JT Compher.
• Last year's squad started 7-0 for the first time since 1979-80.
