NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Junior Trent McFarland and freshman Quincy Isaac of the University of Michigan men's track and field team have earned USTFCCCA regional awards, as announced by the organization Thursday (June 18). McFarland was named the Great Lakes Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year, while Isaac was named the Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year.
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches following the conclusion of the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Performances from both the NCAA Championships and the regular season were considered.
McFarland set the program 1,500-meter run record on April 17 at the Wake Forest Invitational, logging a time of 3:33.17 to tie for the fourth fastest time on the NCAA performers list. The Utica, Mich., native was part of the first-place 4x800-meter relay at the Penn Relays a week later (April 25), with the time setting a program standard for the second straight year and coming just 0.28 seconds shy of the collegiate record.
At the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, the junior took home silver in the 1,500-meter run (4:01.49) to improve on his fourth-place finish in 2025. McFarland qualified for the NCAA East First Round in the 1,500-meter run, setting the UK Outdoor Track and Field Facility record (3:38.04) to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, where he finished second (3:37.18) and earned first team All-America honors.
Isaac tied the program record in the long jump with a mark of 7.89 meters (25 feet, 10.75 inches) at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, finishing second to be named to the All-Big Ten second team and All-Big Ten Freshman Team. He qualified for the NCAA East First Round, where he tied his personal best and finished fifth to punch his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Isaac was the only freshman to advance to the long jump finals and finished ninth (7.78m/25-6.25) for second team All-America honors.
