
McFarland Takes Silver, U-M Finishes Tied for 26th at NCAA Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team closed out its 2026 slate on Friday (June 12) at Hayward Field, capturing one medal and two podium finishes on its way to tie for a 26th place with 10 points.
Arkansas took the team crown with 56 points while Georgia (49) and Tennessee (46) rounded out the top three.
Trent McFarland picked up silver in the 1,500-meter run, running a time of 3:37.18, while Brendan Herger finished 10th (3:38.91). McFarland sat in ninth with 800 meters to go before moving up to fourth heading into the final lap, running a 52.99-second split to finish second. Herger sat in fourth through 1,100-meters but fell to 10th after a 54.79 split on the final lap.
Miles Brown finished seventh (1:45.59) in the 800-meter run to earn two points for the Wolverines and Camden Law finished ninth (1:46.24) in their NCAA Outdoor Championship debuts. Brown was fourth and Law was sixth after the first lap, but the pair ran the two slowest final laps to finish seventh and ninth, respectively.
Brown and McFarland earned first team All-America honors while Herger and Law were named second team All-Americans.
The Wolverines will look to international competition next, with select members of the team continuing their campaigns at respective senior-level and U20 national championships.
