
U-M to Open Season at Buckeye Spring Regatta

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan rowing team travels to Columbus, Ohio, to compete in the Buckeye Spring Regatta at Griggs Reservoir on Saturday (March 28). This weekend marks the first official race of the 2026 season for the Wolverines. Races will be streamed live on B1G+ and begin at 8:30 a.m.
Notes
• U-M enters its first week of the rowing season ranked No. 11 in the CRCA Poll, opening as a preseason top-12 team for the 17th straight season.
• The following boats are expected to race twice each across two sessions Saturday: 1V8, 2V8, 1V4, 2V4, 3V4, 3V8, 4V8.
• The Wolverines will be joined by four other teams in Columbus: No. 21 Ohio State, No. 23 Alabama, No. 24 Oklahoma and Notre Dame. Each U-M boat will face the Crimson Tide, Sooners and Fighting Irish once each at the event. Michigan last met all three at the 2025 Big Ten Invitational.
• This weekend marks the Wolverines' third straight year competing in Columbus during the regular season.
• Michigan's roster includes 30 returning athletes from last year's third-place-finishing Big Ten Championship team. They are accompanied by 30 newcomers, including 25 first-year athletes, many of whom are set to make their collegiate debuts this weekend.
• Seniors Madeleine Lauriault and Jana Peachey were named to the 2026 CRCA Athletes to Watch Honorable Mention list before the season for the first time in their careers.
