ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan volleyball head coach Erin Virtue announced Tuesday (Feb. 3) adjustments to the Wolverine coaching staff.
Virtue has elevated Bjarne Huus from assistant coach to associate head coach and Kassie Kadera from assistant coach and recruiting coordinator to general manager and assistant coach.
"I am thrilled to elevate Bjarne to an associate head coach position," said Virtue. "He has been instrumental in coordinating our block and defensive efforts and will continue to bring a massive impact to our program, especially in the area of student-athlete development."
Huus joined the staff as an assistant coach last spring after serving as the associate head coach for the Long Beach State women's volleyball team. He started his coaching roles in 2022 at LBSU, and in his first season at Michigan, Huus worked primarily with the middle blockers and significantly improved U-M's blocking. Under Huus, Serena Nyambio became the first Wolverine in the rally scoring era with 100 blocks or more in conference play. As a team, U-M ranked fifth in total blocks and seventh in blocks per set after finishing 16th and 18th, respectively, during the 2024 season.
"I am honored to be promoted to associate head coach and grateful for the trust placed in me," said Huus. "I am excited to continue building, competing and pushing our program to the next level."
"In this new era of NCAA athletics, it is critical to have someone like Kassie on staff," said Virtue. "In this new role as general manager, Kassie will have a key role in roster management and talent identification. Kassie will also continue her duties as an offensive coordinator and assistant coach."
Kadera joined the staff as an assistant coach last spring from Memphis, where she had been serving as the team's associate head coach since 2021. Kadera has held a variety of volleyball coaching positions, beginning her coaching career in 2012 after being a four-year starter at Toledo. This season, she worked as the team's offensive coordinator, mainly working with the setters. Under Kadera, junior Morgan Burke set a career high with 56 assists and recorded double-digit assists in every match as the primary setter in the 6-2 system. As a team, the Wolverines also set a program record for hitting percentage, hitting .276.
"First, I would like to thank Erin Virtue for the opportunity to take on more responsibilities and for elevating me into this role," said Kadera. "In the ever-changing landscape of women's volleyball and college athletics, I'm very excited to continue to expand my role in this program while helping our student-athletes excel on and off the court. Go Blue!"
U-M will play four games in the spring season, beginning on March 28. The 2026 schedule will be announced at a later date.
