ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team set a program record in the distance medley relay at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 21) at the Loftus Sports Center to close out the regular-season indoor slate.
The relay squad of Brendan Herger, Miles Brown, Camden Law and Trent McFarland posted a time of 9:14.80 to break the previous program standard and win the event by more than four seconds over second-place Wisconsin. The performance shaved five seconds off the prior record and ranks No. 3 all-time in NCAA history under all-conditions listings.
Michigan led from start to finish. Herger opened with a 2:50.9 split on the 1,200-meter leg, Brown followed with 45.0 in the 400 meters, and Law clocked 1:45.9 on the 800-meter leg. McFarland anchored the 1,600 meters in 3:53.0 to seal the victory.
Brown also competed in the 800-meter run, placing second with a season-best time of 1:47.95, just 0.70 seconds shy of his personal best.
U-M opens postseason competition Thursday (Feb. 26) at the Big Ten Championships in Indianapolis, Ind.
