• Michigan returns to match-play competition for the first time since the 2023 Big Ten Match Play Championship, when the No. 8-seeded Wolverines went a perfect 4-0 to capture the program's second title. U-M also went 4-0 as the No. 8 seed during its first championship run in 2014.
• During its 2023 title run, Michigan defeated Penn State before knocking off the tournament's top three seeds -- No. 2 Michigan State, No. 3 Indiana and No. 1 Northwestern -- to claim the championship.
• Michigan captured its first Big Ten Match Play title in 2014, defeating Michigan State, top-seeded Illinois and Iowa before facing Purdue in the championship. With the match tied 2.5-2.5, the Wolverines won a sudden-death playoff to secure the title.
• Match play has deep roots in Michigan golf history. From 1921-22 through 1965-66, the Wolverines competed exclusively in match play, compiling a 272-104-29 record over those 44 seasons.
• Michigan captured both of its NCAA team championships in match play, winning back-to-back national titles in 1934 and 1935. When the NCAA returned to match play to determine its team champion in 2009, the Wolverines advanced to the national semifinals at Inverness Club.
• Michigan opened the 2026-27 season by winning the Virtues and Island Resort Intercollegiates, marking the Wolverines' first back-to-back team tournament victories in 18 years. U-M combined to finish 74 under par across the two events, posting an 831 (-33) at the Virtues and an 823 (-41) at Island Resort.
• The Wolverines completed a team-and-individual sweep in each of their first two events. Naik opened the season with a 201 (-15) to win the Virtues before Arone followed with a 202 (-14) to claim the Island Resort title.
• Michigan was under par in all six rounds during its run of back-to-back season-opening wins, including five rounds of 12-under or better. The stretch was highlighted by a season-low 273 (-15) in the second round of the Island Resort Intercollegiate.
• Arone and Naik have provided a strong 1-2 combination through four events. Arone leads U-M with a 70.58 scoring average, followed by Naik at 70.67. Each has posted seven sub-par rounds in 12 rounds, while combining for three top-five finishes and four top-20 finishes.
• Michigan's early-season success has featured plenty of depth, with four Wolverines already recording a top-five finish -- Naik, Arone, Muratore and Shropshire. Shropshire highlighted his first collegiate fall with a runner-up finish at the Island Resort Intercollegiate, shooting 204 (-12) with three straight rounds in the 60s (69-67-68).
