
McFarland Sets Mile Program Record at Razorback Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Trent McFarland of the No. 22-ranked University of Michigan men's track and field team set the program's mile run record on Saturday (Jan. 31) to close out the Razorback Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
McFarland finished first in the mile, posting a personal-best time of 3:52.73 to set the new program standard. The time is just under two seconds faster than the previous record and is No. 14 on the NCAA all-time performers list.
Brendan Herger placed seventh with a personal best 3:55.80, the No. 5 time on the program performers list, while Riley Flemington placed 13th to come 0.75 seconds shy of his personal best. Freshman Henry Dixon (3:59.30) and Camden Law (3:59.74) achieved personal bests to finish 17th and 19th, respectively.
In the 400-meter dash, Miles Brown earned a 19th-place finish with a time of 46.98 seconds for the No. 6 time on the program performers list. Will Barhite finished 23rd (47.47) and John O'Reilly finished 25th (47.56), both with personal bests.
Five Wolverines recorded personal bests in the 3,000-meter run, with Caleb Jarema's fifth-place finish leading the team and a time of 7:52.61 coming in at No. 4 on the program performers list. Luke Alverson (17th, 8:02.57), Nathan Lopez (18th, 8:03.81), William Beardsley (19th, 8:04.13) and Heath McAllister (21st, 8:04.76) also logged personal best times.
Neil Howard finished fourth in his heptathlon debut, posting a score of 5,723 points for the No. 3 mark on the program's performers list, while Tyler Baker finished eighth (4,978 points). Sophomore Josh Huisman posted a season-best mark of 17.84 meters (58 feet, 6.5 inches) in the shot put.
The 4x400-meter relay squad of Barhite, Brown, O'Reilly and Krish Gupta finished 10th with a season-best time of 3:10.56, coming 0.47 seconds shy of the No. 10 time on the program performers list.
Michigan will return home for the Michigan Invitational next Saturday (Feb. 7) at the U-M Indoor Track Building. The program's seniors will be recognized following the conclusion of the meet.
