
Michigan Travels Back West for UC San Diego's Triton Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan water polo program (0-5) travels to La Jolla, Calif., to compete in the Triton Invitational, Friday through Sunday (Jan. 30-Feb. 2) at Triton Pool. The Wolverines will start the weekend with a rematch against No. 6 Arizona State (5-0) on Friday (Jan. 30) at 2:40 p.m. PT. The tournament will continue with bracket play on Saturday (Jan. 31), when U-M squares off against a pair of opponents, and on Sunday (Feb. 2), when U-M will face one foe. Opponents for Saturday and Sunday's matchups are to be determined.
Notes
• The Wolverines enter the Triton Invitational following a pair of losses at the Malmsten Invitational last weekend. Despite the losses, the Wolverines scored 17 goals in the two games at the tournament.
• Ari Karampetsou continued to shine for the Wolverines, scoring two goals and dishing multiple assists throughout the weekend. Her performance in Arizona garnered Karampetsou a place on the Player of the Week Honor Roll.
• Freshman Bailee Swindells got her first opportunity to compete in the maize and blue this weekend. She stood out in the second match versus Arizona State, notching two goals. Swindells was recognized for her performance by the CWPA, making the Freshman of the Week Honor Roll.
• Emma Gustafsson was a key force at the Malmsten Invite. She made big plays for the defense, coming up with four steals over the two games, along with two shot blocks. On top of that, she scored a goal per game and dished out an assist in the opener against Loyola Marymount.
• Senior captain Brooke Ingram, has scored at least one goal in every game this season.
• The Wolverines will be facing Arizona State for the second time in a week on Friday (Jan. 30), following their loss to the Sun Devils last Sunday (Jan. 25).
