
Michigan Opens Triton Invitational With Setback to No. 6 Arizona State

LA. JOLLA, Calif. -- The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan water polo team dropped its opening contest at the Triton Invitational, falling 16-10 to No. 6 Arizona State on Friday (Jan. 30) at Triton Pool.
Ari Karampetsou once again led the Wolverine offense, scoring five of their 10 goals and contributing one assist. Other goal scorers for the Wolverines (0-6) included Issy Jackson, who notched two tallies on the scoresheet, along with Kaia Levenfeld, Brooke Ingram and Riley Chapple, who each had one. Freshman Ryland Smith was among the offensive contributors, dishing out an assist of her own in her debut in the maize and blue.
Jackson also shone for the Wolverines on defense, collecting three steals and three drawn exclusions against the Sun Devils (4-0). Emilia Mladjan contributed two of each.
The Wolverines will continue play at the Triton Invitational at 8 a.m. PT on Saturday (Jan. 31), taking on Cal State Fullerton at Triton Pool.
