
McFarland Sets Facility Record, Six Wolverines Post Top-10 Marks at Simmons-Harvey Invite

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team closed out a two-meet homestand on Saturday (Jan. 20), hosting the Simmons-Harvey Invitational at the U-M Indoor Track Building. The Wolverines set one facility record and six top-10 program marks at the meet.
Three Wolverines posted a sub-four-minute mile, with Trent McFarland's personal-best 3:56.41, earning the win and setting a new facility record. Sophomore Brendan Herger and senior Riley Flemington also logged personal bests, finishing second (3:56.62) and third (3:58.07), respectively. McFarland's time comes in at No. 4 on the program performers list, while Herger's is No. 6 and Flemington's is No. 9.
In the 60-meter dash preliminaries, Amit Rutman advanced to the finals with a personal-best time of 6.89 seconds before besting that time with a 6.87 in the finals to finish second. Jake Machiniak (21.40) and Will Barhite (21.64) went 1-2 in the 200-meter dash, with Machiniak's time tying his personal best and coming in at No. 7 on the program performers list.
Caleb Root ran a personal-best 48.54 in the 400-meter dash to finish third, while Nick Butler-Simpson finished fourth with a time of 49.14.
The Maize and Blue claimed the top two spots in the 800-meter run, with Miles Brown finishing first (1:48.04) and John O'Reilly finishing second (1:48.12). O'Reilly's time is a personal best and No. 8 on the program performers list.
Michigan took three of the top five spots in the pole vault, with Neil Howard's mark of 5.15 meters (16 feet, 10.75 inches) leading the contingent. His mark is a personal best and ties him for seventh on the program performers list. Cole Sheldon cleared a personal-best 5.05m (16-6.75) to finish second and Liam Kinney cleared a season-best 4.80m (15-9) to finish fourth.
Tyler Baker earned a personal-best mark in the long jump with a mark of 6.86m (22-6.25) to finish fifth. Josh Huisman finished third in the shot put with a mark of 17.15m (56-3.25), while Peter Donini finished fourth with a personal-best mark of 16.64m (54-7.25).
The Wolverines will have a week off before hitting the road for the Razorback Invitational hosted by Arkansas on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 30-31.
