
Michigan to Face No. 10 Minnesota in Midweek Match at Crisler Center

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team (10-3, 0-2 Big Ten) is set to host No. 10-ranked Minnesota (12-1, 2-0 Big Ten) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 1) inside Crisler Center. The contest will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
Notes
• U-M faces Minnesota after losing its first two conference matches on the road last week. Michigan started the season 10-1 in non-conference play. The Wolverines traveled to No. 1 Nebraska on Sept. 24 and East Lansing on Sept. 27, falling in straight sets in both matches.
• Senior Serena Nyambio continues to lead the Wolverines in both hitting percentage (.445) and total blocks with 48 (eight solo, 42 assisted). She is third in the conference in hitting percentage and 10th in total blocks. Nyambio had six blocks over the last two matches and hit .455 with seven kills and two errors on 11 swings at Michigan State.
• Junior setter Morgan Burke continues to close in on 2,000 career assists with an added 41 last week (10 against Nebraska, 31 against MSU) to bring her to 1,938 assists over the past three seasons. She is 10th all-time in career assists at U-M. Burke also recorded her first blocks of the season against the Spartans, recording two block assists as U-M moved to a 5-1 system.
• Graduate student Allison Jacobs continues to rank in the top five of the conference in multiple categories, including attacks per set (fifth, 10.28), kills per set (fifth, 4.02), points per set (fifth, 4.73), and total kills (fourth, 173). Jacobs is also third on the team in digs (80) and fourth in blocks with 21 (six solo, 15 assisted).
• Ella Demetrician totaled 10 kills against Michigan State and has double-digit kills in four of the past five matches. Her season high came earlier in the season with 13 against Southern Indiana. Demetrician is hitting .227 this season and has added 54 digs and 12 blocks.
• Lydia Johnson co-led with Demetrician with 10 kills against MSU and is second on the team with 103. Johnson passed 100 kills for the first time in her career after 60 over her first two seasons. She has also contributed at the net with 30 total blocks, averaging 0.68 blocks per set.
• Minnesota enters this weekday matchup 12-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Big Ten after sweeping Michigan State and Rutgers at home to start Big Ten play. The Gophers are currently riding a 12-game win streak after losing their first match of the season to No. 9 Texas A&M. Michigan trails 63-17 in the all-time series against the Gophers, with their last win coming at home on Oct. 8, 2021.
• Wednesday night's match against Minnesota kicks off the Big Ten/Discover In-Season Volleyball Challenge. Each team in the Big Ten will play five matches that count towards the challenge throughout October, and the winner will be determined by the team with the greatest win total after those matches. Another notable match in this challenge for the Wolverines is against rival Ohio State on Oct. 24 in Columbus.
